Acer’s quietly rising to overthrow Dell as a leading notebook company, and their new Ethos line is on the right track to help them out. The 18.4-inch 8943G is basically an armored tank disguised as a laptop. It features a 1920×1080 resolution, and an impressive 5.1 surround sound setup, with 5 speakers and a sub within its chassis. The laptop has a choice of processor options, ending in the quad-core Core i7-820QM, which can crank from 1.73GHz clock speed to 3.06GHz. Graphics come from a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 GPU, and a staggering 1.28TB of storage from two 640GB HDDs.
A small version is available in the 5943G, offering a 15.6-inch display at 1366×758 resolution, 2.1 speakers, and 640GB storage. Pricing and availabilty for both have not been announced.
