Word is that Sprint stores will open at the crack of dawn tomorrow (actually 8am) for the launch of Samsung’s Epic 4G phone. It’s an Android handset with a 1Ghz processor, 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen, 4G connectivity and a slide out keyboard. Price for the handset will be $249.99 after a 2-year contract and $100 mail-in-rebate.
We can’t say we were overwhelmingly convinced with Samsung’s bada smartphone OS back when we reviewed the Wave S8500, the handset’s high-end specs doing most of the wowing, so we’ll be interested to see how a more affordable model fares. Samsung has just outed the Wave 723 (GT-S7320E), apparently intended to further “democritize” the smartphone market, with a 3.2-inch WQVGA LCD display, 5-megapixel camera and dualband UMTS/HSPA.
Samsung has outed a pair of new Android-powered smartphones, the Galaxy 3 I5800 and the Galaxy 5 I5500. The Galaxy 5 has a compact 2.8-inch QVGA display, making for one of the smallest Android devices around, with dualband 3G (900/2100), a 2-megapixel fixed-focus camera with LED flash, WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Meanwhile the Galaxy 3 has a 3.2-inch WQVGA display, 3G, a 3-megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.
Samsung’s final new phones for today pick up the not-long-for-this-world Windows Mobile 6.5 OS, with the Samsung Omnia Pro 4 B7350 and Samsung Omnia Pro 5 B6520 each toting full QWERTY keyboards and, on the Pro 4, a touchscreen too. The Omnia Pro 4 has dualband (900/2100) 3G, a 2.62-inch 320 x 320 touchscreen and a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera, while the Omnia Pro 5 has triband (900/1900/2100) 3G, a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 display and a 2-megapixel camera.
Samsung had always promised that the Wave S8500 would be just the first of several bada devices, and now the second and third smartphones based on the platform have arrived. The Samsung Wave 2 S5250 and Samsung Wave 2 Pro S5330 are more affordable versions of the original bada phone, each with a 3.2-inch WQVGA LCD display (rather than the Wave’s Super AMOLED), no 3G (EDGE max) and a 3-megapixel camera. The Wave 2 Pro also gets a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
Samsung’s Galaxy S GT-I9000 has finally launched, with the 4-inch Super AMOLED Android 2.1 smartphone hitting Europe first before rolling out to the rest of the world – the US included – later in 2010. Toting a Samsung 1GHz Hummingbird processor, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, along with 3G/UMTS, TouchWiz 3.0 and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera, we’ve been waiting for the Galaxy S for quite some time.

It’s been a few months since we’ve brought up the Samsung NX10, but now that it’s back, apparently Samsung wanted to make sure that it caught all the passer-by’s eyes. Because how many simple, boring, one color cameras can you have, right? It’s always better to give your customers a little bit of choice. Even if it is just for a limited time. For example, this white and black version of Samsung’s mirrorless APS camera.

If you’re curious as to how companies all over the world are forging ahead in the endeavor to save our environment, here’s something to take note of. The Portuguese carrier TMN has decided to utilize one eco-friendly device with their latest plan: paper SIM cards. A small detail in some people’s eyes, but as the company points out, the SIM card (along with the card you punch it out of, and subsequently discard) is manufactured from petroleum-based plastics, and therefore something to consider.
