Murmurings of an Acer Aspire packing Intel's new Pine Trail N450 processor have been doing the rounds for a while, but finally pics and more specs have been leaked, cementing the existence of this still-unofficial model.

It's a 10.1-inch model with a 1024 x 600 resolution display, and runs on the aforementioned processor, along with an Intel GMA 3150 graphics card, 1GB of RAM, and has either a 160GB or 250GB HDD. A 0.3-megapixel webcam, 5-in-1 card reader, 3 x USB ports, VGA out port and audio jacks round it off, as does the Windows 7 Starter edition OS.

It'll come in black, red, white and blue colorways, with the leaked prices so far suggesting it'll be under $300. Expect to hear more on this netbook soon, with CES just over the peak of the hill.

Sony is beefing up their VAIO line with three new notebooks, the F-, Y- and W-Series, and is refreshing their VAIO Z-Series. The four new models are available with Blu-ray drives as well as Sony's Transfer Jet technology.

The Sony VAIO Z-Series, with a 13.1' LED backlit screen, weighs only three pounds, thanks to a lightweight carbon fiber body. This road warrior can still kick back and entertain, with a Blu-ray optical drive and HDMI out for movie time. The Z-Series will use solid state drives of up to 512 GB and come with optional 3G connectivity from Verizon. Pre-orders are available now with configurations starting at $1000.


The F-Series is a multi-media affair, with a 16.4' 16:9 screen, and an optional Blu-ray drive to take advantage of that wide aspect ratio. Of course, it pumps out video in full 1080p and boasts an Intel Core i7 processor. It will be available sometime in the spring for around $1900.


The VAIO Y-Series is a 13.3' LED, 3.9lb notebook based on affordability and portability. It's stuck with a Intel Core 2 Duo, but at only $800 makes for a good value. Pre-sales start today.

Other specs include an optional GPS, 802.11n WiFi, Windows 7 Starter Edition and a 6-cell battery, which provides up to ten hours of operation time. Looking to combine the best bits of smartphones and notebooks is this concept design from Freescale. It operates as a regular 7 inch tablet but also comes with a QWERTY keyboard docking station for ease of use when not on the move.

Currently strictly a concept design gunning to whet appetites of OEMs and ODMs.

What they have so far is a 7 inch WSVGA touch screen powered by a 1GHz i.MX515 processor based on Cortex A8 architecture. It also incudes OpenVG and OpenGL.ES hardware graphic cores and HD video decoding.

Inside is also 512MB of DDR2 RAM, 4-64GB HDD, microSD support, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, USB 2.0 and USB mini support and a 3MP camera.

Battery life is slated at 12 hours whilst running WiFi and at 80% screen brightness, meaning the 1900mAh battery’s one of the stars of this system. It weighs in at 13.26 ounces and although there are no dates announced, it could be released around the $200 mark.
